Sri Lanka faced a very heavy south-west monsoon this year, owing to which there was flooding in several parts of the country on May 18 and 19. Five lac people were affected and 224 lost their lives.
Forbes Marshall Sri Lanka realised that the tea factories did not have sufficient water pumps to cater to the need during the tragedy. They decided to step in and join with the tea factories to provide clean water for all the flood-affected areas by providing water pumps.
The team also trained the technicians of each tea factory on the operation and maintenance of the pump, so that the tea factories could be self-sufficient and carry out the activities in-house itself.
In order to make the system sustainable, the pumps were returned to the tea factory so that they could be protected and utilised in a similar situation in future as well.
In addition to this, for a short period of time, Forbes Marshall Sri Lanka also agreed to look after the catering for those affected by the floods.
This gesture by the Sri Lankan team reinforces the value of Family Spirit that we pride ourselves on here at Forbes Marshall.
